Welcome to 2016!
With the start of a new year comes the feeling of needing to “get your life,” also know as, being an adult and prioritizing so that you accomplish your goals and thrive instead of just survive. Planning is essential to thriving; a very low percentage of people just happen upon a situation that solves all of their wants and needs in life. You have to CREATE your future. The more you plan and the harder you work, the luckier you’ll be. So, luck really has nothing to do with it at all. Being intentional about your moves in life, and being willing to take risks will put you where you need to be, present you with opportunities that you want and need, and help you on your way to achieving your goals.
While becoming INTENTIONAL about my goal setting and planning, I’ve done three key things to help me along the way:
There are several books that have opened my mind and my heart to believing more in the power that I possess on the inside, and harvesting it to make my life more like I desire it to be. Check out some of the books I love, and that have opened my mind immensely.
Ask for help.
“There is no such thing as a stupid question.” That is true! Over the past year I’ve opened myself up to ask questions to anyone and in any way possible. You wouldn’t believe the opportunities that have resulted because of it. Something as simple as posting a question to your friends on your Facebook page could turn out to be a beautiful exchange of information that you wouldn’t have learned otherwise. So open up, ask questions, gain knowledge from the network of people that you already have. Join new networks, ask more questions, continue to grow! You got this!
Create a Vision Board.
I’m a very visual learner, so creating a vision board has been such a rewarding method of goal setting. My first vision board I ever created had pictures of the Italian flag, a dancer, and a fashion model. The next year, I was able to earn enough scholarship money to study abroad in Rome, Italy; I came back and continued to perform dances with the Caribbean and African clubs on my university campus; and then I started this blog, which eventually turned into a place to express my fashion! Vision Boards are not magical, although when used properly, they sort of seem that way. The magic is really just in you… Vision Boards don’t work if you don’t work, make plans, and follow through with them in order to achieve your goals. They are simply a constant source of motivation. Remember, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” – Benjamin Franklin. So plan, and make your plan pretty and right there in your face with your Vision Board!
For this vision board, I wanted it to be flexible as my goals change and as I achieve some goals! Here’s what you’ll need to create a Vision Board like this.
- Cork Board bulletin board
- push pins (these are from Target)
- images of what inspire you (from magazines or gathered online and printed out)
- these FREE printouts! (shown below)
Simply save and print these pdfs, cut out the images and assemble your vision board! For example, here are some of the categories and images I used for my new Vision Board.
Make 2016 Amazing!
Plan to make your year great! Remember these true and great words by Benjamin Franklin – “If you fail to plan, you are planing to fail!” Don’t default and plan to fail. Plan and try and try again until you succeed and achieve what you set out to do. Happy 2016!
