Hey, Addie thanks for this post! I just wanted to add that it’s important to note that in terms of soil health, the non-hardscape options are definitely the best. Soil is healthiest when it is part of a biodiverse network. This moves carbon from the air into the soil and fosters an ecosystem of renewal. I know humans like some spaces without plants, but just wanted to make a note that plants are best, when possible!
Thank you for this info, David! That is important to know! The hardscapes seem like a great option in the dessert or super dry temperature areas, but it’s important to remember that even desserts have biodiversity in the soil that shouldn’t all be covered up.
