You know how you believe that know a place so well that you don’t even see what’s right in front of your face because you think you already know what’s there? Well, that’s how I sometimes feel about a little town called Nashville, AR. My grandparents lived the majority of their lives there. My parents grew up, went to school, and got married and started our family there. I spent all but maybe 1 or summers there for as far as my memory goes back until I was about 20 years old. With a population of less than 5,00o folks, I thought I’d seen it all.
That was, until this past Memorial Day when I stopped uptown to find a nicely staged flag that I could photograph. I stopped at the courthouse. The same courthouse on the corner uptown where it has always been. The same courthouse where I got my driver’s license, y’all. No biggie, just a regular courthouse. Not! I guess with time, age, and a little wisdom, my filter was different. I noticed its beauty and uniqueness among other buildings in the town. I snapped a few pictures of the flags and memorial tribute for an Instagram post (do it for the ‘gram), and I also took some photos of the exterior of the building. I hope I am able to catch it during business hours the next time I visit home so that I can get interior photos, but these details will suffice for now. Welcome to the Howard County Courthouse, peoples.
And here’s a throwback, via
I see the building’s style as Art Deco, and Wikipedia users define it as moderne, which is basically a spin-off of art deco. Wikipedia gets a lot of people through college these days so I suppose we can trust it, right? Anywho, think Great Gatsby-ish. Architecture never fails to fascinate me, and I love seeing older buildings still living in this new age. Hence the blog name – OLD world, NEW girl. Get it, get it? Explaining that will never get old, haha.
I hope y’all are opening your eyes to things you thought you knew everything about and finding new beauty in them, too! If not, give it a try. I’m sure it is one of the actions that makes this world a better place ❤
Later gators!

You’re really encouraging me to explore Little Rock through mature eyes. I moved away at 18 but I’ve been back every summer since then…but I don’t ever explore.
It’ll be a whole new world when you visit again! =)
It’s totally art deco! And I’m obsessed with it!!!!! Isn’t that so weird to see something new after seeing it like every day?!
It is super weird. It’s like, “where have my eyes and brain been all this time?” Lol
I love this! What a great message. Now I want to go to Little Rock! haha
Oh there are some places I’d like to explore in LR, too. I haven’t been to the Clinton Museum yet.
So art deco and so different from most courthouses. Love it!
It is indeed unique! Thanks =)
When I was in college, the professors said we could not use Wikipedia, LoL. That is so funny to me. Wikipedia is the first source for most all of us 🙂
I love old buildings, especially in rural southern towns. That is where you will find the best architecture and history. Howard County Court House is great. Love the pics too.
Haha that’s what they said in high school. By the time I was halfway through college, they knew everyone was using it just a little =) thanks!
I love old buildings… I also love how they decorated for Memorial Day.
It was so quaint and calm next to the old building with such character
Addie, that is a gorgeous courthouse! I love the Art Deco font they used above the door. Isn’t it funny how you can look at something all of your life … and then one day see it with new eyes. I really enjoyed this post. All the best, Terri
