3 Benefits of Renewable Wind Energy – Iberdrola Texas

Homeschool, working, playing board games, working out… so much is happening at home these days, and now we’ve made it more sustainable. So, we’re going to be mindful of our energy usage, but I’m going to smile to myself so many times when I remember that our energy comes from Iberdrola Texas’ renewable wind energy.

1. Support Local Community by Creating Jobs

Supporting local businesses and small businesses are amazing ways to uplift and build our communities. While part of the global Iberdrola Group, Iberdrola Texas is local to Texas, just like the folks at your farmers market. The wind energy that now powers my house in DFW is generated on wind farms right here in the Lonestar state! This means that Texans are being employed to make sure that my house receives renewable energy. The wind energy revolution is creating jobs for people within the state with Iberdrola Texas, which means that it is directly helping real people outside of the environmental benefits.

All of us have heard of some sustainable living tips that seem impossible to achieve. We could probably sit down and have a long conversation about all of the ways some of the tips are just too much and don’t sound realistic for our lifestyle at all. But being fortunate enough to have electricity is something that many of us share in common. We already pay our electricity bill monthly (or at whatever increment you pay). Wind energy is a clean energy source that is easily renewable. We don’t have to do anything to make the wind come, it just does. Wind is a result of natural processes related to the sun, the Earth’s rotation, and the irregularities of the Earth’s surface. It requires no burning, no mining, and no toxic fumes. As a result, wind energy does not contribute to climate change.

Keeping it Real About the Impact of Wind Energy

As with anything, there can be some down sides. I want to be realistic about it and share info that could be helpful in that aspect, as well. A common conversation that comes up when talking about wind turbines is how they cause the death of birds. While wind turbines that produce renewable energy do kill up to 368,000 birds annually, a 2014 study discovered that number is only a fraction of the number of bird deaths cause by cell towers, cats, and radio towers, which can reach up to 3.7 billion annual bird deaths. Bird migration maps have also been developed to help notify wind farms of times when it would be beneficial to slow down turbines so that fewer bird deaths occur.

Other downsides include having to compete in an open market that is dominated by greenhouse gas causing electricity sources, and noise and sight pollution. Ultimately, though, I truly believe that the impact that wind energy has on building jobs in the community and reducing greenhouse gases outweighs the downsides.
