Kombucha, a fermented tea drink, is gaining visual popularity on social media and in health circles these days. Black-owned kombucha brands may not be as easy to find, but they exist, and they deserve our support!
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is fermented tea, and sometimes fermented mushrooms, with flavors added to it. Y’all know I love tea, and even though kombucha tastes nothing like the tea that it starts as, it is a delicious and healthy drink. However, kombucha does take getting used to if you are new to it. It is quite fizzy and tangy. I enjoy the process of trying new flavors of kombucha in order to find more that I really love to drink.

I love the name “The Cultured Kombucha” because it is a double entendre – culture can stand for the unique and beautiful culture of Black people, and culture can stand for the cultures that result from fermenting tea and making that into a refreshing kombucha drink! Brewed in Washington, DC, this Black woman -owned kombucha company creates seasonal flavors that naturally come and go just as the seasons do. Here are some flavors that you can find at The Cultured Kombucha: Lotus Flower Bomb, Tropic Like It’s Hot, Bug A Boo, and Golden. Final Thoughts on Black-Owned Kombucha Brands
When I saw Jewels Kombucha at the Dallas Farmers Market, I had no idea how few Black-owned kombucha brands existed. After some research, I’m so glad that I now know about all of these beautiful and bubbly brands. Don’t let your support of Black-owned brands in niche areas stop here, though! Keep asking yourself if there are Black-owned brands for the things that you love, and support those brands wholeheartedly.
