MooMoo Style

Mumu, MuuMuu, MooMoo – your granny’s favorite thing to wear. It’s all the same thing. I never thought much of MooMoos until I first got my own apartment. Lounge wear became a bit of an obsession for me at that time. Everything I wore at home had to be comfortable, and it had to keep me warm since I’m generally always cold. I’ve always known that I’m a granny. I loved hanging out with my Grannies at home and at the beauty shop, I was in the knitting club in high school, and I started calling all the kids in my family “baby” very early on. I don’t see it as a negative thing, though. The first time I wore a MooMoo, everything was right in my world. Sounds funny, but comfort is my thing. Even if I am sort of a fashion blogger, kind of. One of my top priorities is feeling good. That’s why you don’t catch me in heels often lol. MooMoos may seem effortless to some, but it takes a bit of sass (plus top of drawing in your eyebrows) to look flawless in a MooMoo while crocheting.

You know MooMoos are infiltrating the culture when they’re talked about on podcasts. I recently listened to the newest episode of Jade + XD and Jade was so excited to show off her new MooMoos to XD. She’d even gone with the girls (Fran & Crissle) to shop for a bunch of them. That’s my kinda MooMoo obsession. I have a super hot (heat-wise) 70s one that I inherited from my sis, who inherited it from our NeeNee. I also have an orange one with black/African ladies and glitter all over it that I inherited from my Aunti Lil. This purple beauty, though, is a find of my own. I found it in one of my favorite thrift stores in Fayetteville, AR right next to a matching men’s shirt. They’re both from Hawaii, so I really wonder about the story behind it. I really love finding pieces like this.

Love that every culture seems to have their version of moomoo. Mu’umu’u in Hawaii, I guess kimono in Japan. The purple looks great on you.

Do you know the brand name of that moomoo? I have a customer looking for that exact thing in that print! Thank you!

Hi Laurie, I don’t! I can barely make out a circle emblem with a woman in the center with my naked eye, but it looks blank when I take a picture of it. When I purchased it, there was a matching men’s shirt in the exact same fabric.

I couldn’t stop searching lol! I found the brand name by searching for the men’s shirt. The brand is “royal creations” and I found more pieces by googling “royal creations Hawaiian muumuu.” I didn’t see this exact one but I only looked on the first eBay page. I hope this can help make it easier to track down! 💚

So funny..I came back to tell you I’d figure out the dress to be Royal Creation and you had already figured it out! From what I’ve been told one manufacturer made the same dress and then it was labeled under various names. One etsy seller Freedom Beach has several..possible one exactly like yours in Blue! She has others listed but may add that one tomorrow! Crazy! Aloha

Happy Earth Day 🌍🫶🏾🌱

I used to think “let me just get 5k followers.. 10k followers… one day I’ll have 20k followers…” to help people live more sustainably with the blog posts and social media posts I created. 10+ years of that led to burnout. And it never felt the same as when my friends and family started to live a little more sustainably because of something they learned from me.

I hope you’ll be the inspiration for someone in your life to be a little bit more sustainable today. It’s such a good feeling to see the people closest to you thrift more, consume less, and think differently — more sustainably — about how we treat our world.

Don’t push it, just live it.

🥶❌🌱 Not my plant babies!

It’s been cold in Texas the past few days, so I acted accordingly to protect my little backyard garden that’s barely underway.

Using thrifted sheets (once back drops in my “thrift fashionista style content” days lol) and thrifted clothes pins (I knew they would come in handy! 😆🙌🏾), as well as some old jugs, bottles, containers, and twigs. Hopefully they help keep the plants from getting too cold to survive.

Do you reuse gift wrap?

Here are some things that I’ve thrifted to reuse as gift wrap each holiday season:

⭐️ tablecloths
⭐️ napkins & handkerchiefs (matching napkins sewn together can be used for larger gifts)
⭐️ Scarves (like from @wrappr)
⭐️ Cloth bags (like the ones your sheet sets come in)
⭐️ Pillowcases
⭐️ Curtains (can be used as gift wrap or to cover larger gifts like bikes or toy kitchens)

As long as you can fold the fabric into a square before wrapping the gift, it works well when using the furoshiki style wrapping technique.

Comment WRAP for a few tips and tricks to wrap gifts in cloth fabric.
