Natural Skin Care Tips with Vardo

natural skin care review of vardo by Old World New sustainable lifestyle blog

Natural Skin Care Accessibility

I was in college when I first started my natural skin care journey, and I was making it up as I went along. I didn’t know about natural brands because there weren’t any in Walmart. In the early 2000s, when all you know are the big box stores, you just work with what they have. Heck, there are small towns that still deal with this. Many big box stores are carrying healthier skin care options. Luckily, the internet and social media are completely revolutionizing the natural skin care market. I’m so happy now that natural skin care is more well-known, and specialty brands like Vardo exist. It’s so easy to just go online (while wearing pajamas and being totally unkempt and comfortable), read all of the info and the amazing ingredients, putting it in the “cart,” and checking out! If that’s not easily accessible, I don’t know what is!

Natural skin care review of VARDO's chemical-free products, published on Old World New, a sustainable lifestyle blog

Vardo

The Vardo motto is simple: “chemicals are bad, natural is good.” I agree! What the earth provides really can be enough when it comes to proper skin care (and lots of other areas in our lives) for many people. The products are simple, but powerful, because of the quality of the ingredients used to create them. Essential oils that enhance the beautiful scents and help to reduce aches and pains, natural butters and oils that feed your skin with healthy fatty oils, and powerful spices balance your complexion, and more.

Banya (Baths) – Beltane

A bath enhancer that adds elements to not only enhance your bath, but to also soothe your body.

Trupos (Lotions/Body Oils) – Ghawazi

This scrumptious smelling oil makes you think of food, and it reminds me of how all things natural are good on the inside and out. It combines butters and oils with cinnamon, allspice, and vanilla. It really smells so divine!

Muj (Face) – The Chariot

A light floral face wash that is great for dry, sensitive, and aging skin.

Muj (Face) – The Devil

A feisty face wash for oily skin. Ingredients like ACV (apple cider vinegar) and turmeric truly awaken your skin while cleansing it!

Paanii (Camping/Travel) – Beltane

This light fruity scented spray is for linen, and also works wonders in my car!

Natural Skin Care Tips

Topical Ingredients Matter!

When you use a toxic sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun, you’re actually causing yourself more issues. The toxic ingredients can damage you in other ways. In some cases, chemicals and synthetic ingredients seem unavoidable. I understand that. However, I say do more research to try to discover an all-natural way to meet your skin care needs. Read the ingredients for the products that you use. If they are high in number and too difficult to announce, find something with less and with more ingredients that you can recognize. Look up the ingredients to see the side effects just to be safe. Know the ingredients that you are placing on your body.

Drink Enough Water

No matter what product you use or how much you apply, if you’re not taking care of yourself on the inside by drinking enough water everyday, you won’t get very far. Humans are made up of nearly 70% water, after all, so staying hydrated and feeding your body that water it needs helps internal organs and organs on the outside. Skin is your biggest organ, and proper water intake helps your skin GLOW! Water intake recommendations differ based on age, gender, and what you do. A good reference to go by, as most recently published by the Institute of Medicine, is 72 ounce (9 cups) for women and 104 ounces (13 cups) for men.

Wash Your Skin

Wash your face after you come home from a long day’s work or being outside all day. Remove your make up before you go to bed. Don’t let all of that sit on your skin over night.

* A bonus tip – use a reusable cotton pad or towel instead of disposable cotton balls and rounds in order for your skin care routine to be less damaging to the environment!

What’s your favorite natural ingredient to implement into your skin care routine? I’ll bet you can find it, or something similar, in a Vardo beauty product. Keep your beauty and skin care products simple, everyone. Your skin will thank you for it!

xoxo dolls & dudes,

Addie

Love this, Addie! I have a hard time sticking with a skin care routine, but I’m certainly not getting any younger. Thanks for bringing this brand to my attention!

This is a nice trick to become eco-friendly by using this kind of product. I personally use the more eco-friendly product for myself.

This looks like spam, but I approved it to make a simple point:

To anyone reading this, don’t let anyone “sustaina-shame” you. Being sustainable isn’t a one-up game. Great for you, Jett (or Robot). This could have been a teaching & learning opportunity, where you could share a method to help me learn a “more eco-friendly” way. But you used it to brag, instead. That’s not acceptable here at Old World New. My mission is to make sustainable living accessible for all, whether it is the “more eco-friendly” way, or the beginner eco-friendly way.

Comments like this are exactly what make people feel like they can never be sustainable. To everyone out there: Don’t listen to it. Y’all got this! Keep shining and learning to be “more eco-friendly” day by day, friends. Incorporate new sustainable living methods when you are able to. Ask me questions any time you feel the need to.

      YOU. GOT. THIS.

Thanks for the teachable moment, Jett.

Happy Earth Day 🌍🫶🏾🌱

I used to think “let me just get 5k followers.. 10k followers… one day I’ll have 20k followers…” to help people live more sustainably with the blog posts and social media posts I created. 10+ years of that led to burnout. And it never felt the same as when my friends and family started to live a little more sustainably because of something they learned from me.

I hope you’ll be the inspiration for someone in your life to be a little bit more sustainable today. It’s such a good feeling to see the people closest to you thrift more, consume less, and think differently — more sustainably — about how we treat our world.

Don’t push it, just live it.

🥶❌🌱 Not my plant babies!

It’s been cold in Texas the past few days, so I acted accordingly to protect my little backyard garden that’s barely underway.

Using thrifted sheets (once back drops in my “thrift fashionista style content” days lol) and thrifted clothes pins (I knew they would come in handy! 😆🙌🏾), as well as some old jugs, bottles, containers, and twigs. Hopefully they help keep the plants from getting too cold to survive.

Do you reuse gift wrap?

Here are some things that I’ve thrifted to reuse as gift wrap each holiday season:

⭐️ tablecloths
⭐️ napkins & handkerchiefs (matching napkins sewn together can be used for larger gifts)
⭐️ Scarves (like from @wrappr)
⭐️ Cloth bags (like the ones your sheet sets come in)
⭐️ Pillowcases
⭐️ Curtains (can be used as gift wrap or to cover larger gifts like bikes or toy kitchens)

As long as you can fold the fabric into a square before wrapping the gift, it works well when using the furoshiki style wrapping technique.

Comment WRAP for a few tips and tricks to wrap gifts in cloth fabric.
