The #SustainableIRL Series at Old World New is highlighting a new eco-friendly theme each month of the year. Month 2/ February is all about recycling resources & minimizing our consumption of single use plastics. Here’s the round up of recycling resources from Old World New, other blogs, and books.   • “Landfills are among the biggest contributors to soil pollution – roughly 80% of the items buried in landfills could be recycled.” – source
  • Being that the US only recycles about 30% of recyclable items, it obviously is NOT one of the Top 10 Recycling countries in the world. – source & source
  • The Chinese ban on accepting recyclables/trash from other countries, such as the US, has caused some recycling facilities to halt operations altogether. – source

  • The Recycle Coach App helps simplify your in-home bin recycling experience. When you find your municipality and save it in the app, you can select your trash and recycling collection schedule and receive personalized reminders. The app and blog also have very helpful articles and tips about recycling.
  • Earth 911 has a great how to recycle guide. Earth 911 also has comprehensive, location specific recycling listings for all types of materials, like paint, hazardous waste, construction, and typical household waste with specific location listing close to you.
  • Terracycle is the industry leading company when it comes to countless ways to recycle. For example, some of your favorite companies on this list parter with them to make recycling a reality for their brands. They also have programs where you can mail in recyclables.
  • Recycle Nation has a map to help you find recycling locations throughout the US.
  • I:CO (I:Collect) partners with a lot of businesses to help them help you recycle.

Discarding the top of strawberries has been the norm my entire life. But why?

Eating the tops of strawberries is one tiny sustainable change that didn’t take a lot of effort.
