Seed – A Daily Synbiotic

I believe that leading a sustainable lifestyle also includes making sustainable choices regarding my body. That means eating well, working out more than I currently do (I said I believe, not that I’m perfect haha), and learning the ways to best maintain my overall health. Seed, a daily synbiotic, was created for the benefit of our digestive health. Gut health is linked to overall health. Here’s how you can sustain your health with Seed’s Daily Synbiotic.

Superorganism: Your Body is an Ecosystem

Much like the Earth’s ecosystem, our bodies are made up of numerous microorganisms. 50% of our bodies, to be exact. It is scientifically called our microbiome. That makes us superorganisms because we are half human, and half microbial! Your microbiome is unique to you, but like your genetic makeup, it is passed down to you.

Mothers give children their original microbiome in a process called “seeding” (hence the name, Seed). Through vaginal birth, skin to skin contact, and breastfeeding, the initial microbes to colonize your gut are put in place, and they get to work helping to develop your immune system. The beneficial bacteria that is part of your microbiome to do things like protect your gut from bad bacteria, help your body decipher between nutrients and non-nutritious food particles, and even make pooping easier.

As we grow, what we eat, the medicine we take, our hygiene, and our overall health impact our micro biome the most. So, how do probiotics contribute to this?

Probiotics & Gut Health

seed® synbiotic - bacteria for gut health

Probiotics: Live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host.

The official definition of ‘probiotics’, authored by a 2001 UN/WHO expert panel, chaired by our Chief Scientist, Dr. Gregor Reid

Not everything that we’ve been told is a “probiotic” is actually a probiotic. Namely, fermented foods, but also some actual supplements that are labeled “probiotic” don’t have the science to back that claim up. As of now, the FDA’s regulations on that term are very loose, and some brands take advantage of that. That’s why Seed has set their own stringent standard and provides scientific proof, as well as easy to understand articles to help the non-scientific folks like me learn more about our bodies and the benefits of probiotics.

Why Take Seed’s Synbiotic Probiotic + Prebiotic Supplement?

Did you know?

Our modern lifestyle is a natural disruptor of our body’s natural ecosystem? “Antibiotic overuse combined with alcohol, sugar, tobacco, disrupted sleep, city-living, decreased breastfeeding, stress, poor diet, and other environmental factors, have depleted the diversity and richness of our microbiomes and impacted our health.” – Seed

Gut health is wealth. Taking care of your gut, which is home to part of your microbiome, encourages and facilitates improved health in so many other areas, as well.

  • Adding synbiotic supplements to your diet is a good way to proactively care for your body.
  • Seed has created a unique formulation of 24 naturally occurring (plant-based) strains of probiotics.
  • You can take it at any time! You don’t have to do it first thing in the morning, or right before bed. AND you can take it with or without food.
  • Seed is SCIENCE based, and they stick to the results of their studies. In order to be a probiotic, the definition says that the supplement will have to show proven health benefits. Seed sticks to the science, so these benefits have been clinically-verified in 23+ studies as results of taking the Daily Synbiotic (not evaluated by the FDA). You can read more about their probiotic clinical studies here.

Seed’s Sustainable Packaging

seed daily symbiotic (probiotic + prebiotic) sustainable packaging

Sustainable living and design enthusiasts, freak out with me for a minute about this. The Seed team has created very low waste packaging from the initial subscription to every refill thereafter. That’s right – refills. No new bottles that get thrown away or wishcycled (when you *hope* it gets recycled). The supplements are stored in a glass container. In the first package, a smaller glass container is also included to carry your supplements you while traveling. The welcome kit tray, refill pouch, and corn foam protection are plant based and compostable. You can even eat the corn foam. The cardboard boxes are recyclable. I really appreciate that Seed thinks beyond our singular body’s ecosystem and about the ecosystem at large when they designed their product and packaging.

    Yes yes yes!
    Thanks for saying this
“1) Your body alone is an entire ecosystem 2) Not all bacteria is bad ”
So important to remember to look after the biodiversity inside us – it’s crazy how much ‘just some microbes’ can do for us, from digestion to hormone regulation and even mental health..
the more we study it the more we find out, so for now i’d say a good rule is to look after it!
    thanks for the post

Oh my god, this looks epic!! That green minimal design and the sustainable packaging, wowowow!! I’m also crazy about probios, ever since I started to travel around Asia, probiotics were my go-to, and the first thing I get in the morning.

It really makes a difference when you have good quality ones. For instance, I never had any gut problems while traveling like most of the other travelers. And I’m pretty sure it’s thanks to my probiotics. But I always felt kinda guilty about the packaging. I don’t buy anything in plastic except my supplements. It’s great to know that there are super sustainable & compostable options like this one.

***By the way, I love the terms ‘seeding’ and ‘genetic makeup’ haha,

Thanks for the inspo! Once I’m finished with mine, I’ll look into these 😉

Great post! Yes, our gut microbiome is so important. There has been so much focus on probiotics over the last couple of years, but it seems that the trend is moving towards the addition of prebiotics, which is great because it works so well together. Many probiotic species are useless unless they have good fibers and prebiotics to thrive on. It is quite handy to have them all in one capsule, like with this brand. I have tried so many brands and species over the last couple of years. I would love to add this one to the “to try list” 🙂 My favorite is Megasporbiotics. The sustainable packaging is also a huge bonus!

Very interesting, I had never heard about this before. I really like the image of the body as a complex ecosystem, it truly is! Huge flows of nutrients and very complex Microsystem integrated!
