Shea Brand Whipped Shea Butter

I know the popular thing now is using coconut oil to heal your entire existence, but you won’t truly know moisture, healing, and wholeness until you’ve experienced shea butter like Shea Brand creates.  I have tried my hand at whipping up my own shea butter concoctions to help manage my hair.  I’ve even had my husband mix shea for me when I was pregnant and too tired to do it myself.  He had no idea what I was making but he said ok and mixed it anyway.  Shea Brand takes the hard work (and guesswork) out of making a shea mixture that is just right.

What is Shea Butter, exactly?

Shea butter is a natural fat that derives from the nut of the African shea tree.  Shea Brand produces and sells organic shea butter that is whipped and infused with vitamins and delightfully scented oils that are all organic and great for your hair, skin and more.

How do I use Shea Butter?

The question should be “is there anything that you CAN’T use shea butter for?”  I’m sure there are some things you can’t use it for, but there are so many ways that you could amp up your life with a little (or a lot of) shea butter.

Curly hair cream:  I keep my hair routine very simple – I start with washing, conditioning & detangling, followed by whipped Shea butter (shea infused with oils).  Then, I put a protective layer of a light oil like almond oil before I style it.  I usually do a protective style like a twist-out.  I take the twists down after a day or two to reap the benefits of the twist out curls.  Before I remove the twists, though, I lightly cover my hair and hands in shea butter so that my hair is moisturized & a little slippery and not dry as I unravel the twists.

Baby bum butter:  Shea is perfect for protecting my tiny human’s skin.  I am very particular about what we put on his skin.  Shea butter keeps his little bum dry, moisturized and protected in his diaper.  It doesn’t contain any crazy chemicals or things I don’t know about, so it doesn’t harm his skin.  Using the Original Shea is great because it is scentless and doesn’t contain ingredients that could potentially irritate his skin.  It is made with two simple ingredients: organic shea butter and vitamin E.  Nothing but the best for the baby!

Overnight face moisturizer:  I learned this use from a random guy selling shea butter and black soap a few years back, and I love using the Lavender Shea butter for it.  After you’ve washed & dried your face for the night, warm a little of the shea butter in your hands and smoothly apply it to your face and neck.  The results in the morning will be a face full of soft and supple skin.  No need for overly-formulated night creams with ingredients you aren’t too sure about using on your precious skin.  Shea butter is the perfect way to moisturize your face.

Even my dog uses it:  I have a hairless dog and his skin is very sensitive.  In the summer we use a natural sunscreen to protect him from the sun while he’s outside.  In the winter we have to make sure he stays moisturized because dry skin can cause him to scratch too much and harm himself.  We switch between coconut oil and shea butter to accomplish this.  The Original Shea is better than coconut oil because it’s not super oily.  It doesn’t get onto the furniture like coconut oil does.  It also does a great job of protecting his skin.

Shea butter came in super handy when he had an allergic reaction recently.  He scratched himself a lot due to the itching and had a lot of welts because of it.  Besides a benadryl, I gave him a green tea and oatmeal bath, moisturized his skin with the Original Shea and put on his body suit by Shed Defender.  He calmed down, stopped scratching, and the welts that resulted from the allergic reaction were gone the next day.  Not only was he healed, but his skin was super soft, too!

Moisturizing for all skin types:  Shea is tough when it needs to be for dry skin and rough patches on areas like feet and elbows.  It is gentle when it needs to be for babies, lips, and sensitive skin.  I love that it isn’t overpowering, heavy or super greasy, though, so it works all skin types.  It is a great product for the entire family (dog included).

I love shea butter for all of the different ways that I can use it.  I love Shea Brand because it provides me with several options of how to take my shea.  How would like your shea?  Lavender, Woodland Fog, Rose or Original?  Whatever your “flavor,” these shea butters will all get your entire existence right and moisturize your life!

xoxo dolls & dude,

Addie

Happy Earth Day 🌍🫶🏾🌱

I used to think “let me just get 5k followers.. 10k followers… one day I’ll have 20k followers…” to help people live more sustainably with the blog posts and social media posts I created. 10+ years of that led to burnout. And it never felt the same as when my friends and family started to live a little more sustainably because of something they learned from me.

I hope you’ll be the inspiration for someone in your life to be a little bit more sustainable today. It’s such a good feeling to see the people closest to you thrift more, consume less, and think differently — more sustainably — about how we treat our world.

Don’t push it, just live it.

🥶❌🌱 Not my plant babies!

It’s been cold in Texas the past few days, so I acted accordingly to protect my little backyard garden that’s barely underway.

Using thrifted sheets (once back drops in my “thrift fashionista style content” days lol) and thrifted clothes pins (I knew they would come in handy! 😆🙌🏾), as well as some old jugs, bottles, containers, and twigs. Hopefully they help keep the plants from getting too cold to survive.

Do you reuse gift wrap?

Here are some things that I’ve thrifted to reuse as gift wrap each holiday season:

⭐️ tablecloths
⭐️ napkins & handkerchiefs (matching napkins sewn together can be used for larger gifts)
⭐️ Scarves (like from @wrappr)
⭐️ Cloth bags (like the ones your sheet sets come in)
⭐️ Pillowcases
⭐️ Curtains (can be used as gift wrap or to cover larger gifts like bikes or toy kitchens)

As long as you can fold the fabric into a square before wrapping the gift, it works well when using the furoshiki style wrapping technique.

Comment WRAP for a few tips and tricks to wrap gifts in cloth fabric.
