Hey y’all! I’m Addie. Welcome to my online home, Old World New.
This space is all about sustainability and making your lifestyle more eco-friendly one step at a time and at your own pace. I also love thrift stores and creating fashionable outfits from second hand finds. You will find both lifestyle and fashion posts here. Mostly everything will relate back to taking action to be a better steward of the earth. If you want to read more about me, just follow that link.
What is “sustainable living?”
So you want to make an eco-friendly change in your life, but don’t know where to start? You’re in the right place! Sustainability simply means not using up all of earth’s limited resources. Living a sustainable lifestyle requires a shift from mainstream gathering of many “things” to a level of consciousness about how everything you do has an impact on the well-being of the environment.
You’ll hear terms like zero-waste, minimalism, and being environmentally conscious when it comes to living sustainably. While those terms are the flashy words right now, the ultimate goal is usually the same – living in a way to do less harm to the earth, and hopefully encouraging others to do the same while you’re on your path. Sometimes the flashiness seems unattainable, and I want to break that stigma right now. Living sustainably, in my opinion, requires moving at a pace that makes sense for you and your family.
Anyone can learn about sustainable living methods at any time. However, not everyone can implement those actions immediately. A lot of us have to save money to invest in things that will help us to become a better steward of the earth. You may live in an area that has absolutely no convenient access to bulk foods or a farmers market. Never beat yourself up over your circumstances. While I may know and continue to learn a lot about being sustainable, I’m still slowly putting everything into practice. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Statement on Sustainability
Everything can be done sustainably.
That is my quote, and I’m sticking to it! With everything that I said above being stated, I still believe that everything can be done sustainably. Being sustainable takes innovation and it also sometimes takes getting back to the basics. Either way, and at any rate, it is truly my belief that we can accomplish nearly everything we do in a sustainable, or more conscious, manner.
