Thrift Store Fashion Inspiration: Mixing secondhand finds with new retail items for the perfect look!

Mixing Thrift Store & Modern Fashion | Plaid Fringe Top + Quilted Skirt

Thrift Store Fashion Inspiration: Mixing secondhand finds with new retail items for the perfect look!
Caution: this outfit successfully contains something old, something new, and something DIY!
Who says you can’t combine thirfty and trendy pieces to create a current chic look? Not I! As a matter of fact, I’m not huge on immediately latching on to trends and fads because I love timeless pieces. However, I’ve slowly (a season or two late, as I usually do) fallen in love with quilted clothes. Although not normally together on one garment, both fringe and plaid are major trends that every generation loves. Here I have combined them, as well as my love for mixing thrifted and new trendy clothes. Some pieces are thrift store finds, some secondhand DIYs, others are new. Mixing it up like this makes it really hard to tell which is which, and that’s just another reason why I love thrifting!

Plaid, black and white long sleeveved button up with fringe that hangs from both the front and back of the shirt – Bloomingdales – Rails Gianna Fringed Shirt $148 (direct link) /// Black quilted mini skirt – Threadflip (online consignment/thrift store/upscale second-hand shop) $11 /// Black wedge heels – thrifted – with DIY removable fringe that I created – shoes $10, DIY less than $15.

The pieces are so much fun together, and every time I see them, I think of several different ways they can be styled with other thrifted or new pieces.

  • the new Plaid shirt could be paired with thrifted boyfriend jeans and tennis shoes
  • the thrifted Quilted skirt could be paired with a white chiffon top (example) and white heels
  • the thrifted Wedges with DIY fringe could be paired with tights and a midi dress for the fall

How would you style these trendy new and thrifted pieces?

xoxo dolls & dudes,

Addie

I absolutely love those shoes because they’re so hip and cool. I love the heel, and how it almost doesn’t look like a heel! You are SLAYING hard girl, I love the railroad track photography! I still need to take some pics on a railroad track 😉 xx, adaatude.com

Swooning. These pictures are absolutely stunning, and you look like you’re having so much fun! I love it. The outfit is also perfect. Seriously digging that skirt, and I’m a huge lover of plaid… and fringe… so I’m loving the shirt too. So cute!

Happy Earth Day 🌍🫶🏾🌱

I used to think “let me just get 5k followers.. 10k followers… one day I’ll have 20k followers…” to help people live more sustainably with the blog posts and social media posts I created. 10+ years of that led to burnout. And it never felt the same as when my friends and family started to live a little more sustainably because of something they learned from me.

I hope you’ll be the inspiration for someone in your life to be a little bit more sustainable today. It’s such a good feeling to see the people closest to you thrift more, consume less, and think differently — more sustainably — about how we treat our world.

Don’t push it, just live it.

🥶❌🌱 Not my plant babies!

It’s been cold in Texas the past few days, so I acted accordingly to protect my little backyard garden that’s barely underway.

Using thrifted sheets (once back drops in my “thrift fashionista style content” days lol) and thrifted clothes pins (I knew they would come in handy! 😆🙌🏾), as well as some old jugs, bottles, containers, and twigs. Hopefully they help keep the plants from getting too cold to survive.

Do you reuse gift wrap?

Here are some things that I’ve thrifted to reuse as gift wrap each holiday season:

⭐️ tablecloths
⭐️ napkins & handkerchiefs (matching napkins sewn together can be used for larger gifts)
⭐️ Scarves (like from @wrappr)
⭐️ Cloth bags (like the ones your sheet sets come in)
⭐️ Pillowcases
⭐️ Curtains (can be used as gift wrap or to cover larger gifts like bikes or toy kitchens)

As long as you can fold the fabric into a square before wrapping the gift, it works well when using the furoshiki style wrapping technique.

Comment WRAP for a few tips and tricks to wrap gifts in cloth fabric.
