Unique Inspiration

Welcome to my first blog post!  I would like to share with you some background on the little things about design that excite me!  To go into more depth about me, I am an undergraduate Interior Design and Architectural Studies major (double), minoring in Sustainability.  My study abroad in Italy during the spring semester 2011 pushed me to the realization that I want to go to graduate school for Historic Preservation.  My dream job would be to design interiors of historical buildings such as Carlo Scarpa’s design for Castelvecchio in Verona, Italy.

My Unique Inspirations:

I can’t explain it, but there’s something about wrought iron that makes my soul smile!  Maybe it’s the fact that such a hard element is made into such graceful forms?  Maybe it’s the playful shadows that it creates?  Whatever the cause, wrought iron is one of my favorite elements to experience in historic architecture.

ironwork of the entrance to the crypt of Basilica di San Zeno – Verona, Italia

ironwork at Santa Maria at Cosmedin – Roma, Italia. Location of “la bocca della verità” – “the mouth of truth”

iron swirls on stair rail – Museo di Capodimonte – Napoli, Italia

ironwork in the lobby of Antonio Gaudí’s Casa Mila – Barcelona, Spain.

Barcelona, Spain. From within Casa Milà, this is a view of the ironwork entrance. Despite the material’s naturally hard and cold feeling, Antonio Gaudí managed to create an organic and warm feel with it!

I hope that my unique inspirations will inspire you, too! =)

Discarding the top of strawberries has been the norm my entire life. But why?

Eating the tops of strawberries is one tiny sustainable change that didn’t take a lot of effort.

What’s one small eco-conscious change you’ve implemented that made you say “Why didn’t I think of this before?!” 💡✨
